Jeff Heuerman lined up at outside wide receiver against Kansas City on the Broncos’ most critical offensive series, trailing by 4 points with a minute left, when the fourth-year tight end made what should have been the most important catch of his young career.
Heuerman ran a deep seam route into the Chiefs’ zone coverage, caught a dart from quarterback Case Keenum in Kansas City territory and then rumbled 15 yards through contact for a 36-yard gain. Of course, the Broncos’ comeback effort fell short. The play erased from Denver lore forever.
Heuerman, like his teammates, is frustrated by now three consecutive losses with the Rams arriving Sunday at Mile High.
