Before almost anybody else emerged from the locker room for the Broncos’ walk-through on Wednesday, rookie Montrell Washington fielded punts on the practice field.
The team is sticking with the fifth-round draft pick as its primary return man, though Washington will have to try to put a big Monday Night Football mistake behind him in order to keep the job.
Washington, bumped into by P.J. Locke while trying to fair catch a punt in overtime, fumbled and set the Chargers in position to knock home a game-winning field goal at SoFi Stadium. He bobbled a ball earlier in the game, too, and has put the ball on the ground three times in the past two games.
