Looking to protect themselves in Peyton Manning's absence, the Broncos signed veteran quarterback Christian Ponder on Wednesday.
Ponder, who worked out for team officials at Dove Valley, attended team meetings Wednesday morning. He provides insurance with Manning sidelined two weeks, if not longer, to recover from a partially torn plantar fascia. There's no definite timetable on Manning's return until he sees how his foot responds to a walking cast this week followed by rehab.
Brock Osweiler makes his second straight start with rookie Trevor Siemian as his backup. Siemian, a seventh-round selection from Northwestern, has never taken an NFL snap.
