The Denver Broncos had to make some tough moves this offseason to become cap compliant due to the enormous amount of dead money by cutting former quarterback Russell Wilson. One of the big surprises was cutting Pro-Bowl and All-Pro safety Justin Simmons. He had become one of the best safeties in the National Football League and arguably one of the best players the franchise has drafted in multiple decades.
To replace Simmons, the Broncos quickly signed former Miami Dolphins safety Brandon Jones to a three-year deal worth up to $20 million. That too was a surprise, since I felt there were much better free agents available that could have solidified the safety position.
