The Broncos on Tuesday released veteran outside linebacker Kasim Edebali, NFL sources confirmed.

The fourth-year linebacker signed with the Broncos in March after spending the first three years of his NFL career in New Orleans. The Broncos acquired him for help on special teams and for depth on the edge in the wake of DeMarcus Ware‘s retirement.

In nine games this season, Edebali played 55 defensive snaps (6.1 percent of the defense) and 163 special-teams snaps (61.5 percent), second-most among linebackers behind Zaire Anderson. He recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit.

With Edebali’s release and the Saints’ signing of running back Jonathan Williams from the Broncos’ practice squad, Denver has an open spot on both the active roster and practice squad.
