Only two players remain from the Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 champions after the team released starting inside linebacker Todd Davis on Friday. An hour before cutting Davis, the Broncos traded defensive lineman Christian Covington to the Cincinnati Bengals for linebacker Austin Calitro.
A four-year starter and the Broncos’ leading tackler in 2019 (134 stops), Davis was in the final season of his contract and was limited in training camp since a calf injury Aug. 20. Davis’ $6 million salary would have been fully guaranteed if he was on the Week 1 roster, but bringing him back on a week-to-week salary after the Tennessee opener is not being considered.
