Broncos Q&A: Jamal Carter on the rise of “The U” and life as an undrafted rookie

Following its 41-8 demolition of Notre Dame last week, the University of Miami on Tuesday moved to No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The sterling performance on national television has begged the question: Is “The U” back? Jamal Carter, the Broncos’ rookie safety and a former Hurricane, says there’s no doubt. Players around the league playfully talk trash through the week about how their respective colleges are performing. On the defensive side of the locker room, Carter has had plenty of reason to brag about his Hurricanes. But Carter has also quietly made strides since arriving in Denver as an undrafted free agent, becoming one of the team’s most heavily used players on special teams.
