The Broncos placed punter Marquette King on injured reserve Saturday and promoted punter Colby Wadman.
Wadman, signed to the practice squad last month, will make his NFL regular season debut Sunday against the New York Jets.
King missed all three days of practice this week with a thigh injury. A source said the Broncos intend to release King once he is healthy.
Signed to a three-year contract following his release by the Oakland Raiders, King drew public criticism from Broncos coach Vance Joseph for his poor performances against Baltimore and Kansas City the last two weeks.
