The Broncos sustained their first injury of organized team activity workouts Tuesday when linebacker Deiontrez Mount tore his Achilles tendon.
A team source said Mount is scheduled for surgery on Thursday and is out for the season.
Mount, 25, joined the Broncos’ practice squad last September and was promoted on Nov. 15. He played in seven games (six tackles). He played 142 special teams snaps so he was expected to fill a core role this year.
Mount is the first player to be injured during OTAs. Guard Ron Leary, right tackle Jared Veldheer, tight end Troy Fumagalli, receiver Jordan Taylor and defensive lineman Clinton McDonald have sat out OTAs with pre-existing injuries.
