Broncos greatest players of all-time: #24, safety Dennis Smith

The Denver Broncos drafted Dennis Smith 15th overall in the 1981 draft. He would spend his career in Denver from start to finish and was inducted in the team’s Ring of Fame in 2001.

Most people today remember the great Steve Atwater for thundering hits (and rightly so), but Dennis Smith set a precedent for that and mentored Atwater on just how to lay the wood as a safety.

Sadly the team didn’t have the right pieces to get Smith a ring while he was playing, but he did appear in 3 of our Super Bowls.
