Editor’s note: In Part 4 of the Broncos’ free-agent forecast, a look at running back Melvin Gordon.
Lucrative second contracts for running backs in the last few years have produced underwhelming results.
Todd Gurley (Rams), Devonta Freeman (Atlanta), David Johnson (Arizona) and Jerick McKinnon (San Francisco) have battled injuries and inconsistency. All of which is good news for the Broncos and bad news for the Chargers’ Melvin Gordon, who next week will be a free agent for the first time in his career.
It is unlikely Gordon will command major money and it’s similarly unlikely the Broncos will splurge on a complement to Phillip Lindsay.
