Emmanuel Sanders stood in the batter’s box at Coors Field Tuesday afternoon with high expectations — for his showing on the baseball diamond and the football field.
The Broncos’ wide receiver joined several teammates at UCHealth’s third-annual Healthy Swings charity home run derby, which helped raise $100,000 for cancer research for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Fullback Andy Janovich took home the individual title with three blasts into the seats.
“I expect to make contact a lot,” Sanders said moments before launching several baseballs past the $1,000-donation midfield fence marker.
But the eyes of reporters quickly drifted from Sanders’ bat to his left leg, and more specifically, a surgically repaired Achilles that twisted with every hack.
