After a shoulder injury from a boxing workout wiped out his would-be senior year in 2020, Damarri Mathis took a medical redshirt and came back healthy to Pittsburgh last season with much to prove.
He did just that.
Mathis started 13 games at cornerback and earned honorable mention All-ACC honors after posting 44 tackles and two interceptions. Mathis followed that up with a strong performance at the combine, including a 4.39-second 40-yard dash. With his draft stock restored, the Broncos selected him in the fourth round at No. 115 overall this past weekend.
The 23-year-old projects to immediately help Denver on special teams while also adding depth at cornerback, a position the team struggled to stay healthy at over the past two seasons.
