About 36 hours after the Broncos lost defensive end Billy Winn to a season-ending knee injury, fellow defensive end Derek Wolfe went down in practice Monday with an ankle injury. The sixth-year veteran who is a key piece of both their run defense and pass rush was carted off the field after getting caught up in a pile with tackle Menelik Watson on 11-on-11 drills early in the workout.
“We’re not sure how bad,” head coach Vance Joseph said after practice. “We’re kind of assuming it’s not that bad, but it’s a lower ankle injury.”
Wolfe, visibly upset by the injury, didn’t put any weight on his right leg as he hobbled back to the locker room with the help of trainers.
