Texas prosecutors on Thursday confirmed they are conducting an investigation when asked about a report that Broncos defensive end Antonio Smith is being probed on suspicion of child abuse.
However, John Healey, the district attorney in Fort Bend County, Texas, declined to speak about the nature of his office's investigation or the target.
"It is true that the county sheriff's office has received a complaint from an individual," he said. "They are, and have been, conducting an investigation."
TMZ first reported news of the investigation early Thursday morning.
Healey said no charges have been filed in the case and that law enforcement has been reviewing the matter for several weeks.
