Breaking down the Broncos' roster at the 53-man deadline

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- It took some excruciating cuts for the Broncos to trim the roster to 53 players, and perhaps none was more painful than inside linebacker Steven Johnson.

A starter during the second half of the 2014 season after Nate Irving tore his medial collateral ligament, Johnson was one of 20 players waived or released in advance of the 2 p.m. MDT deadline to get down to 53 players.

The suspensions of safety T.J. Ward (one game) and defensive end Derek Wolfe (four games) were the final transactions that got the Broncos down to the league-mandated limit.
