Confident in quarterback Drew Lock, on the same page with coach Vic Fangio and aware of the Broncos’ spending ability and draft currency, general manager John Elway tried to temper his excitement upon his arrival at the scouting combine in late February.
“If we do the right things, and the young guys have to improve and take a step, we have a chance to get competitive pretty fast,” Elway said that afternoon inside the Indiana Convention Center.
The free agent/trade period yielded cornerback A.J. Bouye, defensive lineman Jurrell Casey and right guard Graham Glasgow, the kind of kick-start the Broncos believe they needed to challenge Super Bowl champion Kansas City in the AFC West.
