Aurora ICU nurse Gabby Windey of Boulder was selected by the Denver Outlaws as their honorary ninth-round pick in the 2020 Major League Lacrosse draft, which will be held in its entirety Monday night.
Each MLL team has a ninth-round pick to honor a person in its community that is leading the fight against COVID-19, the Outlaws said in a release.
Windey is a sports fan who has worked at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. She is a Denver Broncos cheerleader and used to dance for the Outlaws.
“I’ve had so many organizations, like the MLL, reach out and be truly interested in telling our story as health care workers working during the pandemic,” Windey said in a release.
