Jason Witten‘s decision to return to the Dallas Cowboys after one season in ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” booth led to all sorts of speculation about what the network plans to do with its announcing team now that Witten no longer will be part of it. Would the network stand pat with Witten’s two former broadcast partners and simply park Booger McFarland alongside Joe Tessitore in the booth after he spent last season traversing the sideline in a cart? Would it decide that another voice was needed to replace Witten?
Jim Miller, who co-wrote a book about ESPN and remains keyed in to the network’s inner workings, thinks it probably will be the former, though there’s a big “if” attached to his prediction.
