The Denver Broncos have added a former first round pick to their roster. According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Broncos have signed Phil Taylor. Terms of the deal were not announced, but it's likely a cheap, one-year deal for Taylor.
The Cleveland Browns took Taylor with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Baylor. Taylor showed promise in his rookie season, but never capitalized on it. For more Broncos news, download the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app.
After four sacks in his rookie year, Taylor had three in his last three years with the team. He was cut by Cleveland before the start of the 2015 season. A knee injury played a major role in that.
Taylor checks in at 6-foot-3, 335-pounds, and can play at either nose guard or defensive end in the 3-4 scheme the Broncos run. With Malik Jackson set to hit free agency, this might be some backup in case Jackson leaves. Tom Heckert, the director of player personnel with Denver, was the Browns' GM when the team took Taylor.
