The Denver Broncos have stalled negotiations with quarterback Brock Osweiler out of respect for Peyton Manning, but that doesn't change the fact that they've got a clear plan about how they want to proceed with the near future of the franchise.
"The chances the Broncos want him back at zero," NBC Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio said on the Dan Patrick Show Wednesday. "Even if he said he'd take $1 million to return, the Broncos still want to go to Osweiler."
When asked about his preference between Osweiler and fellow QB free agent Kirk Cousins, Florio pointed to Osweiler as the better investment when looking for a "franchise quarterback" -- citing his size, success in pressure situations and natural skill set. "We've seen enough, he's won some big games," Florio said. "The New England Patriots came to town and he won that game. Yes, his teammates played a big part of that. But he's still got the biggest upside."
So, what's next for Peyton Manning? Filling in for Dan Patrick, Paul Pabst and Andrew Perloff pointed to two potential non-playing roles for Manning: ownership and coaching. Perloff leaned towards ownership, citing the rigors of being a coach in today's game as something that worries many former players about a transition to the sidelines.
