The Denver Broncos won 12 games last season, but it wasn't enough for John Fox to keep his job. The new staff will be in charge of the AFC West favorites and a team with high expectations. Here are four reasons why Denver will win the AFC West this season.
Peyton Manning
Manning isn't the same player he once was, but he's still one of the smartest players in the NFL. His arm strength might be dropping, but his intelligence, timing and accuracy are still enough to guide Denver to an AFC West title.
Balanced Attack
The Broncos have weapons everywhere, even with the loss of Julius Thomas. C.J. Anderson had a breakout season and should play well again this year. Demaryius Thomas is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball and Emmanuel Sanders is one of the most underrated WRs. Cody Latimer should step up in his second season. Run or pass, Denver should move the ball.
Solid Offensive Line
Denver would have been okay even before it signed Evan Mathis. Now, the Broncos have two studs in Mathis and Louis Vasquez. The starters at the other three spots aren't clear, but Denver has several options. Even with the loss of Ryan Clady, Manning will have enough time to operate and the holes for Anderson will be there.
Great Defense
The Broncos' defense finished third last season. Wade Phillips is back and his 3-4 scheme might result in even more sacks for Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Brandon Marshall and Danny Trevathan should be strong at MLB. The Broncos have three Pro Bowlers in the secondary, led by Chris Harris. He's the most underrated CB in the NFL. This defense is loaded.
