Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller became just the fourth linebacker in franchise history to be chosen for at least four Pro Bowls with his recent selection, and now Miller is looking to receive a major raise for his elite on-field production.
Miller is looking to become the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL once his fifth-year option runs out this offseason, per Jason Cole of Bleacher Report. The current top deal among defensive players in the NFL belongs to Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Suh was inked to a six-year, $114 million deal prior to the 2015 regular season.
Rand Getlin of NFL Media mentioned Miller's desire to become the highest paid defensive player a few months back, citing information from inside Miller's inner circle. However, a source close to Miller indicates that the star linebacker expects to receive the franchise tag from the Broncos this offseason -- keeping him in tow for an average derived from the top five salaries at his position.
Miller led the Broncos with 11 sacks this year. He's one of just three players in Denver Broncos franchise history with four double-digit sack seasons to his credit.
The 26-year-old Texas A&M product was selected 2nd overall by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was signed to a four-year, $21 million rookie deal shortly after with the aforementioned fifth-year option.
