John Boyett is no longer a member of the Denver Broncos practice squad, and after reading the details of his arrest (via the Denver Post) it isn't hard to see why. Here's a quick rundown of Boyett's Tuesday night, which continued into early Wednesday:
- Boyett's night started out at the Sports Book Bar and Grill, where he was asked to leave after getting excessively drunk and threatening other patrons. Boyett tried stealing another diner's food, threatened to punch a bartender, and then refused to pay his tab.
- Two police officers responded, and apparently decided to call Boyett a cab home. Five minutes later, the cab driver called police to tell them Boyett had head-butted him.
- Boyett then entered a nearby construction site to evade the police, stole a shovel and tried to hide from officers by covering his body in mulch.
- Boyett was quickly found by the responding officers, who tried to subdue him by threatening him with Tasers.
- Boyett told the officers to "contact his boss, John Elway", then "repeatedly slammed his head into a patrol car window while yelling and spitting".
According to the Post, Boyett has been charged with theft, harassment, and third-degree assault. Indianapolis drafted Boyett in the sixth round draft out of Oregon last year, but released him after a public intoxication arrest. According to records, Boyett told the officers on that occasion that they "couldn't arrest him because he played for the Colts".
