San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is entering the final year of his current six-year, $91.8 million deal, leading to speculation that he'll be tabbed as Peyton Manning's replacement with the Denver Broncos if and when Manning retires after the 2015 NFL season.
"I am signed up for one more year," Rivers said of his current contract situation, per UT-San Diego's Kevin Acee. "I guess things could change, but with all the uncertainty in many aspects, I don’t see it changing before camp gets here, and when camp gets here I’m even more certain to play it out."
Rumbling out of Denver indicate that the Broncos aren't exactly solid on backup quarterback Brock Osweiler as the team's quarterback of the future, and while the Broncos could look to the 2015 NFL Draft for the heir apparent, Rivers is a familiar foe whose numbers and overall resume could make him a top target right out of the box.
Rivers, 33, has gone 356-of-560 (63.57 percent) for 4,429 yards, 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in his career against the AFC West rival Broncos.
