The Denver Broncos gambled last offseason by attempting to handle the offensive line in-house while focusing on defense in free agency. Now, ESPN analyst (and former Bronco) Mark Schlereth is indicating that the team will need at least three new starters on the O-line in 2015.
"Yes, that's absolutely, 100 percent correct, three new starters minimum," he said, via ESPN's Jeff Legwold."And let's face it, even with that, (Ryan) Clady has to be better than he was [in 2014]. Whether that's the injuries, that he's broken, or not, we'll see."
Broncos exec John Elway seems to agree, stating that a "change of scenery" would be beneficial for some of the Broncos' current crop of offensive linemen.
"Athletically speaking, they're not good enough at left guard, center, and they need to find a right tackle," Schlereth said. "They need to develop some young players ... they're not doing a good enough job drafting and developing at the position. The misnomer is you have to be lighter to play in the offense, all that baloney. Look, you need to have great feet, great hands, and you can play a long time in that offense. They need to find and develop those guys. I mean, the Patriots just won a Super Bowl with a rookie at center [Bryan Stork] they got in the fourth round."
