Welker returned to Broncos practice Monday after suffering a concussion during his third preseason game. The concussion was Welker's third in 10 months, and it was was considered unlikely that he would be cleared to play in time for Denver's season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
In 2013, his first year with the Broncos, Welker caught 73 passes for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns. A five-time Pro Bowler with the New England Patriots, Welker had never previously been suspended by the NFL.
UPDATE 7:52 PM ET: The Denver Post reports the amphetamine in question is the pharmaceutical Adderall, and also notes that the Broncos have not been notified of any discipline against Welker by the NFL.
UPDATE 8:34 PM ET: In contrast to the Post report, ProFootballTalk is reporting that Welker tested positive for MDMA at the Kentucky Derby. Molly, also known as Molly or the uncut form of Ecstasy, is what earned Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick a similar 4-game suspension last month.
