The Denver Broncos are well aware that Demaryius Thomas is one of the elite wide receivers in the NFL, and they're not willing to let him find his way to free agency even if they can't come to terms on a multi-year contract extension just yet.
Per Alec Brzezinski of the Sporting News, "the Denver Post reports the star receiver will get the franchise tag and will not reach free agency after failing to agree to a long-term deal with the Broncos before Monday's deadline. The Broncos have until 4 p.m. ET on Monday to use its lone franchise tag. Thomas will make close to $12.8 million next year if he chooses to accept it."

Once the franchise tag is in place, the Broncos and Thomas will have time to work out the details of a long-term contract. Other NFL teams would be unable to negotiate with or make overtures to Thomas if he is indeed tagged.
Thomas, 27, caught an eye-popping 111 passes for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2014.
