In Broncos news today, Denver Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton understands that he could be making a lot more than $2.5 million in 2014 if he didn't have one year left on his current contract -- but that will not lead to a hold-out on Knighton's part.
According to Mike Klis of The Denver Post, "had he hit the market coming off the productive year he had with the Broncos in 2013, Knighton might be a $10 million player. Through his agent, Tony Fleming, Knighton approached the Broncos about getting a new contract, but the team isn't ready to renegotiate."
Knighton signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Broncos before the 2013 NFL season right after being benched by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012. His value has skyrocketed since then, but as of now it will not lead to an immediate pay boost.
Knighton says he has "kept an eye" on the fact that other, as Klis terms them, "space-eaters" have secured eight-figure contracts. Atlanta's Paul Soliai will receive $11 million this year, despite only having one sack last season.
However, despite all of this, Knighton won't make a huge deal about it. He just wants to get back to playing football and showing his worth:
"I'm definitely going to honor the contract," Knighton stated. "I want to get something done and I'd like to get something done here. I don't want to bounce around. But I'm at the point now where once the season starts, I'm just strictly football."
