Big loss for Broncos as they lose Danny Trevathan for 6-8 weeks

The Denver Broncos entered the pre-season with a lot of optimism. With the additions of veterans in Aquib Talib and T.J. Ward alongside their already polished offense, the Broncos were all in for a return to the Super Bowl.

However, at Tuesday's practice, starting linebacker Danny Trevathan was carted off and could not put weight on his left leg. The suspected injury is a broken kneecap, and Trevathan is expected to miss up to 6-8 weeks.

Last season, Trevathan led the team with 124 tackles, and was integral in Jack Del Rio's defensive scheme.

After entering the preseason with hopes of finally fielding a healthy defensive roster, the Broncos will now have to re-evaluate their options.

For the time being, the Broncos will likely turn to second-year player Brandon Marshall. The prospect out of Nevada only played in one game last year, though, posting two tackles.

The Broncos will be pleased to have the potentially rejuvenated Von Miller and the newly added DeMarcus Ware this season, but Trevathan's loss will be felt immediately.

Denver's first game will be at home against the Indianapolis Colts on September 7. Kick-off is set for a 6:30 p.m. MDT start.
