The Denver Broncos have a chance to clinch a first-round bye - and even the No. 1 overall seed - in the AFC Playoffs with a win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Here are three reasons why the Broncos are guaranteed to pull out the victory this weekend:
3) Emerging running game
The Broncos had been limited on offense this season because of their lackluster rushing attack, but they've been playing much better of late. C.J. Anderon and Ronnie Hillman have combined for 460 yards and four touchdowns over their last five games, and they should have more success against the Chargers.
2) Dominant defense
Denver's defense has been one of the best in the league all season, but they've been playing some of their best ball of late, holding three of their last four opponents to 17 points or less. The Broncos rank first in total defense and fourth in points allowed per game, while San Diego's offense ranks 26th in points scored. Expect Denver's defense to control this one from start to finish.
1) More to play for
The only thing San Diego is competing for right now is a top-three pick in the NFL Draft, while the Broncos are battling for playoff positioning. Not only is there the obvious talent gap between the two teams, but the level of energy and effort will be very different between the two sides because of what is (or what is not) on the line.
