The Denver Broncos have had some of the best players in NFL history on their roster, but that doesn’t mean they’ve had a few bad misses in the draft along the way. Here are are the biggest draft busts in team history:
3) OLB Mike Croel (4th overall pick in 1991)
Croel was the highest draft pick in Broncos history until Von Miller was picked No. 2 overall in 2011, but he failed to live up to that billing. A 10-sack season landed him the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and boosted expectations even higher for Croel, who went on to record just 14 sacks over the next three seasons. After being released by the Broncos in 1994, he spent one season apiece with New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, and Seattle Seahawks before being out of the NFL in 1998.
2) DE Jarvis Moss (17th overall pick in 2007)
Denver traded a third- and fifth-round pick to move up four spots to draft Moss, but they were never able to get the production they wanted from him. In his three and a half seasons in Denver, Moss recorded just 23 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He then played one and a half equally unproductive seasons for the Raiders before being out of football in 2011.
1) DT Ted Gregory (26th overall pick in 1988)
Dan Reeves had never even talked to Gregory before drafting him, a mistake that proved very costly. Because of their lack of pre-draft research, he was traded to the New Orleans Saints during the preseason after the Broncos found out that Gregory had major knee issues. He played just three games for the Saints before his knee injuries ended his career.
