The women’s World Cup final is set, and it will be an all-European affair between England and Spain. England, the European champion, roared past co-host Australia, 3-1, on Wednesday to reach the final for the first time. Earlier, high-scoring Spain beat Sweden, 2-1, in the first semifinal and will meet England Sunday in Sydney. The teams met in the quarterfinals of the European championships, a dramatic 2-1 England victory. Neither side has won a women’s World Cup.
Japan, which lost to Sweden in the quarterfinals, had been the last remaining team in the field with a World Cup championship on its résumé.
