On Saturday afternoon, when D.C. United’s bus pulls into the east-side lot at Toyota Park in suburban Chicago, Patrick Nyarko will encounter a stiff draft of memories.
For eight years, the Windy City was home. It’s where he launched his pro soccer career after leaving Virginia Tech a year early and where he entered the Fire’s record books seventh in career games played and third in assists.
He built unbreakable bonds on and off the field, lived in the South Loop, Lakeview and West Loop neighborhoods. A native of south-central Ghana, he found comfort in the American Midwest.
