D.C. United’s acquisition of Argentine midfielder Luciano Acosta is now complete, and after years of operating without a pure playmaker and often manufacturing results through grit and perseverance, the club has a bubbly attacker capable of changing the dynamic of Ben Olsen’s squad.
United is also hopeful that, after years of foreign flops, it has landed a rousing import.
“He’s unpredictable, he’s electric and he’s a lot of fun to watch,” Olsen said. “He comes with a bag of tricks and, when the ball hits his feet, good things happen.”
Just 21 years old and 5 feet 3, Acosta debuted Saturday in a 1-0 preseason victory over the second-division Tampa Bay Rowdies, logging 45 minutes and assisting on Fabian Espindola’s goal.
