Why isn’t Luciano Acosta starting for D.C. United? Ben Olsen explains.

Luciano Acosta, D.C. United’s offseason arrival from Boca Juniors, started four of the first five competitive matches and figured to play a pivotal role in the club’s revamped attack this spring. But in the past two games, as United has continued struggling to score, Ben Olsen has relegated him to late-game substitute.

What gives?

“This isn’t about having a negative conversation about Acosta; he’s 21, he just came to this country, he just brought his family, and it’s going to take him some time to adjust,” Olsen told the Insider on Tuesday. “He does well at times and there have been other times where we are asking him to do some things that are out of his comfort zone.
