Weston McKennie, who was removed from the U.S. men’s national soccer team for violating program policy, could return to the squad when 2022 World Cup qualifying continues next month, Coach Gregg Berhalter said Tuesday.
The Juventus midfielder was ruled out of Sunday’s match against Canada in Nashville and returned to his Italian club before the U.S. team chartered to Honduras for Wednesday night’s game.
Asked whether McKennie, 23, had a future with the squad, Berhalter said: “Of course. It’s an open-door policy. Very rarely would there be a situation where a player would never be allowed back into national team camp.
