The Washington Spirit continued its roster overhaul Monday, trading career scoring leader Diana Matheson to the Seattle Reign for rookie forward Arielle Ship and a third-round pick in the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League draft.
Matheson, a Canadian national team midfielder, is the sixth regular to depart the NWSL finalists this offseason, joining captain Ali Krieger (traded to Orlando), 2015 MVP Crystal Dunn (signed with Chelsea in England), midfielder Christine Nairn (traded to Seattle), 2016 top scorer Estefania Banini (signed with Valencia in Spain) and defender Megan Oyster (traded to Boston for two starters).
