D.C. United rose to the urgent occasion Saturday, routing Orlando City, 4-1, before more than 25,000 at RFK Stadium. Meantime, the Spirit squandered its second chance to clinch the NWSL Shield, losing 3-1 at Chicago, Washington’s likely semifinal opponent next Friday.
First, United.
The bad news: Midfielder Marcelo Sarvas suffered a knee injury in the first half and will undergo at MRI exam Sunday. Ben Olsen said: “We’ll see, we’ll see, it’s a knee, so it could be, I don’t know, we’ll take a picture tomorrow.”
United remains without its other primary defensive midfielder, Jared Jeffrey, who has missed four games with a concussion.
