USMNT injury woes continue: Brenden Aaronson is ruled out of World Cup qualifiers

Attacker Brenden Aaronson will not join the U.S. men’s national team for its last three World Cup qualifiers, becoming the fifth regular sidelined by injury before the program’s most crucial stretch in years.

Aaronson, the only player to appear in each of the first 11 qualifiers, suffered a knee injury over the weekend while with his Austrian club, Red Bull Salzburg.

The U.S. Soccer Federation initially said it expected Aaronson to report to training camp in Houston and that his status was day-to-day. Late Monday afternoon, after saying it had reviewed updated medical information from Salzburg, the USSF announced Aaronson would “not be sufficiently recovered in time for the matches.
