The United States is all but assured of playing host to the 2031 women’s World Cup following FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s announcement Thursday that no other bids were submitted by this week’s deadline.
Even with competition, the United States would have been the heavy favorite to host the quadrennial soccer competition for the first time since 2003 and third overall. Africa was the only other confederation eligible to pursue the 2031 tournament, but no countries stepped forward.
