On the surface, D.C. United’s multi-goal deficit entering the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals Tuesday does not lend optimism to a rousing comeback. At the bare minimum, United will need to defeat Queretaro by two goals at RFK Stadium to retain any hope of advancing in the international tournament.
The MLS side, though, was heartened by the way it went about the opener last week in Mexico.
In its first serious match since November, United was industrious and organized against an in-season opponent. It generated four serious scoring chances before conceding twice in the last 20 minutes of the 2-0 defeat.
