Three D.C. United players invited to Bruce Arena’s U.S. training camp

D.C. United’s Steve Birnbaum, Bill Hamid and Taylor Kemp were named to Bruce Arena’s U.S. national team roster Thursday for an all-MLS winter training camp, starting next week in Carson, Calif.

Birnbaum, a center back, has received regular call-ups for the past year and started two World Cup qualifiers under former coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Hamid, one of the league’s top goalkeepers, has made periodic appearances over five years. Kemp, a left back from the University of Maryland entering his fifth MLS season, will make his U.S. camp debut.

They were among 32 players invited to a month-long gathering that will culminate with friendlies against Serbia on Jan.
