The cross got past a trio of heads before it found Mazatlán forward Brian Rubio. Rubio raised up and, with force, headed it past D.C. United goalkeeper Alex Bono, who got his right hand to the ball but couldn’t stop it from going into the net.

The goal capped a flurry from the Liga MX side at the end of the first half at Audi Field, putting 10-man D.C. United in a two-goal hole from which it could not recover. The 2-1 loss sent D.C. out of the Leagues Cup in the round of 32.
