Two days before playing in the National Women’s Soccer League title game, the Washington Spirit saw a pair of its players honored Thursday for their stellar work this season. Trinity Rodman was named the league’s rookie of the year and Aubrey Bledsoe was named goalkeeper of the year.
Rodman, the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, made an immediate impact after becoming the youngest player drafted into the NWSL. The 19-year-old attacker notched six goals and six assists during the regular season, then scored again in the Spirit’s 2-1 semifinals win over OL Reign on Sunday that propelled Washington to a championship showdown with the Chicago Red Stars.
