The Washington Spirit’s cascading injury issues deepened Wednesday with the confirmation that veteran midfielder Andi Sullivan will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in her right knee.
Sullivan suffered the injury in the 88th minute of the Spirit’s 2-0 loss at the Orlando Pride on Sunday night. Her knee buckled as she challenged Orlando midfielder Summer Yates outside the Spirit box, and the 28-year-old was taken off the field on the stretcher after a lengthy delay.
Spirit Coach Jonatan Giráldez told reporters Sunday night “the first impression is not good,” and Washington confirmed the injury Wednesday.
