Portugal’s Euro 2024 match Saturday against Turkey was interrupted four times by spectators running onto the field to take selfies with star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was approached twice more after the game ended.
Portugal won the Group F contest, 3-0. Afterward, Coach Roberto Martinez decried the incidents, telling reporters, “It is a concern, but today we were lucky as intention of the fans were good. The fans recognize big stars and icons, but there is a very difficult situation if their intentions are wrong and players are exposed.”
The first field invader was a young child who ran onto the pitch in the 69th minute and was embraced by the 39-year-old star.
