Luciano Acosta is under contract with D.C. United until the end of the year. But for practical purposes, United would need to strike a deal with the Argentine playmaker by July 1 if it wants to retain him next season and beyond.
General Manager Dave Kasper said the organization is planning to resume negotiations with Acosta’s agent in late spring in hopes of reaching an agreement before the player can begin fielding offers from clubs abroad this summer.
In a meeting Tuesday with editors and reporters from The Washington Post, Kasper said: “Certainly our priority is to get him under contract.
