Not a good night for Hope Solo, but U.S. team wins Olympic group

Hope Solo is the best female goalkeeper in the world, perhaps of all-time. On Tuesday, however, she looked ordinary.

Solo conceded two free-kick goals by Catalina Usme, including a 90th-minute equalizer from an audacious angle, as the United States settled for a 2-2 draw against lightly regarded Colombia at Arena da Amazonia in Manaus, Brazil.

Despite the result, the top-ranked Americans (2-0-1) clinched first place in Group G and a quarterfinal date Friday in Brasilia against a third-place team to be determined (Australia, China or Sweden).

The four-time gold medalists didn’t lose, but it felt like it.
