As teams across the National Women’s Soccer League have settled back into their routines after a long international break for the Olympics, the Washington Spirit were juggling plenty of changes before Saturday’s game against the Portland Thorns.
One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the Spirit’s flair for the dramatic. After digging itself an early deficit in the second half, Trinity Rodman equalized in the 60th minute, then set up new acquisition Leicy Santos for the decisive goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time for a 2-1 win at Audi Field.
